“The Function of Intelligence is to create force.” —R.W. Stephenson
Lets discuss Principle No. 8 of the 33 Chiropractic Principles in detail as we look at how intelligence expresses force in our body as it relates to our physiology and well-being.
Understanding that universal intelligence is in all matter and continually gives all its properties and actions, thus maintaining it in existence, will help lead you to the next philosophical 8th Principle.
The body is full of intelligence, both educated and innate. The educated intelligence is that which we gain through life and the innate intelligence is that which we are born with. The common chiropractic illustration of innate intelligence is for nine months, an infant inside a mother requires very little help to grow into a living breathing baby from anything other than the mother’s supply of nutrients and warmth. The day the baby is born, we believe that the baby needs more help from the educated intelligence man has learned and gained through the years of studying baby’s compared to the wisdom that resides within the baby. The same wisdom that turned two cells into one and then into trillion in just a couple months time. Yes, the innate intelligence within every living breathing body is full of wisdom that keeps the body alive and functioning as one harmonious organism. Not that the educated intelligence can’t supply support and need in times of a lack of adaptation within our body, but educated intelligence is a wonderful tool that we all must use and take advantage of. The point of the illustration and for you to become aware of the inner wisdom within your body that is striving for adaptable conditions.
Albert Einstein concluded his professional career with a question that is case in point to the inner wisdom that is striving for adaptation. Albert Einstein asked this enlightening question in search of clarifying his major premise during research: “The most important question you can ever ask is if the Universe is a friendly place?” Ask yourself right now, is this Universe friendly or hostile? What comes to mind? Both? Can there be both, or does it have to be one or the other?
From a physicist viewpoint, which is built on laws or principles that are true or false, it can only be one or the other. The universe is either a friendly universe or a hostile universe. In the world of principles, equations are used to support the question being asked. For instance, E=mc^2 is the equation that supports the question of whether or not energy can be created or destroyed. When searching for the answer to where energy comes from, a major premise was clarified: it’s neither created nor destroyed. It can only be transferred or interchanged.
The definition of Universe is “all existing matter and space considered as a whole.” Does matter and the space that the matter lives in provide a perfect environment for more of what’s in it? Does the Universe support life? These are big questions, but the easiest way to answer them would be to answer them in context of true or false. Is the Universe friendly, true or false?
The Universe is friendly, that means it is constantly striving for organization or a state of condition of being free or as free as possible from defects. Defects and imperfection do exist, but the Universe is not searching for imperfection and disharmony. That would be a self-destructive universe.
In order to reach a higher quality of life or your desired potential for more well-being, the viewpoint to whether or not your body is striving for inner perfection and is healing towards health and wholeness is vital to your success. You will not attain the perfect condition of strength, vitality and overall well-being if you philosophically believe that the Universe is hostile.
True, there is danger within the world, there are chemicals that can hurt the body and there is daily stress that will break down your mind and body. Along with these negative forces and stressors to our body resides limitations to the amount of resistance to the forces we can withstand. The more force or stressors, the more likely our positive nature of health and healing cannot adapt.
Those are all facts, but what is also true in the viewpoint of well-being and health is there is an inner perfection trying to adapt to those external invasive forces that are breaking down cells and tissues. This inner perfection strives for a friendly state of health and structure. It strives for more cells and tissues that work together. There is an innate intelligence within your body that constantly strives to make the body to be as good as it can possibly be.
For example, every contraction and relaxation of your diaphragm is supported with a mental impulse from the Phrenic Nerve to and from your brain. “Phrenic” means relating to the diaphragm. The Phrenic Nerve communicates to your diaphragm via impulses to help coordinate breathing. When you breath in, your diaphragm “contraction” moves downward, making your chest expand and draw in more oxygen for your lungs. When you breath out, your diaphragm “relaxes,” allowing your chest to shrink back to a small size. Your Phrenic Nerve exits out of your neck around the C3-C5 region and travels down towards your lungs and heart to supply vital mental impulses through the nerve to your diaphragm. An average person can have their diaphragm flex and relax about 16 times per minute, which means you take in about 23,000 breaths a day and, on average, over 8 million times per year!
What’s the value of knowing about your Phrenic Nerve and diaphragm contraction and relaxation? The value lies in understanding that in order to properly breathe your average 16 breaths per minute, there is an innate intelligence guiding your well-being through neurological impulses or forces between your brain and diaphragm producing health and well-being.
There is more to these neurological forces than just an impulse that says “breathe” or “contract diaphragm.” There is intelligence within the force that causes it to be expressed to the tissue of the diaphragm that coordinates proper contraction and relaxation for the right amount at the right time. The innate intelligence of the body not only protects the body from invasive forces, but it also produces coordination and harmony around the clock through these forces.
Production is defined as the action of making or manufacturing from components or raw materials. Our body takes in raw materials from the food we eat, or even the air we breath in, and manufactures health for our overall well-being. The ability to produce something from nothing (raw material) is how well-being is achieved. You don’t find more health and well-being in a bottle or pill. You find it from the inside-out. Yes, the bottle or pill may aid and assist your production and even be the key factor in the process, but the production of more well-being in principle occurs within you, not within the bottle or pill. You are a well-being producing organism through the inner forces of the body to intelligently recreate more living breathing tissue!
Innate is a word that means “being born with it.” In chiropractic, it differentiates the living from the nonliving. In our human body, there is an innate intelligence that is actively keeping us in a state of organization through forces. The simplest way to comprehend innate intelligence is by referring to it as a principle or law similar to the law of gravity.
Newton’s law of gravity is defined as “any particle in the universe attracts every other particle in the universe with a force which is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of they distance between their centers.” This definition is a law or principle that was created within the branch of knowledge known as physics. The law of gravity is principle that you cannot physically see, touch or taste. It’s an observation that works whether you believe in it or not.
Innate intelligence is similar to the law of gravity in the respect that you can’t see, touch or taste it. It’s not physical, it’s a principle of truth. It is an observation that works within your body whether you believe in it or not.
