The Chiropractic 33 Principles are the building blocks to the philosophy, science and art of Chiropractic.

The first principle of the 33 Chiropractic Principles: “The Major Premise” –  A Universal Intelligence is in all matter and continually gives to it all its properties and actions, thus maintaining it in existence. The second principle: “The expression of intelligence through matter is the Chiropractic meaning of life.” The third principle: “The Union of Intelligence and Matter” — Life is necessarily the union of intelligence and matter.

Today, we’ll be discussing Principle 4: “The Triune of Life.” Life is a trinity having three necessary united factors, namely, Intelligence, Force and Matter.

What is Life? Health care providers, theologians and philosophers have been searching for the answer to this question and Chiropractors have it right in front of them through this definition of the Triune of Life.

Life has several different definitions by today’s standards, but the concept of whether there is life or not falls within the definition of the Triune of Life’s 100 year old description. Let’s look at them.

“The condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death; in other words adaptation, reproduction and growth.”

This definition of life is dependent upon complete function, the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death. In this early viewpoint, life was a non-entity and disease was an entity.

Entities and non-entities are a scientific terms to describe things with distinct and independent existence. Entities and non-entities are around us all the time and for most of us we just don’t give it enough recognition to care which is which.

Your quality of life is more than how you feel! This definition of life is important when it comes to understanding that well-being or function is the entity and disease or infirmity is the non-entity. When you’re body is unhealthy or sick its due to an absence of health or function. Life is the state of complete well-being regardless of the absence of disease or infirmity. When you heal or create new well-being through the recuperative power of the body to maintain coordinated function, the well-being within the body takes over and drives the emptiness of the disease or infirmity out of the body.

As a chiropractor who agrees with the viewpoint that life is the entity and disease and infirmity as the non-entity, I recommend to my clients that investing into your quality of life regardless of how you “feel” will produce the greatest return on your investment.

“Vitality, vigor, or energy.”

This definition that aligns with The Triune of Life. Life within the human body can be described as the coordinated state of energy or well-being.

Chiropractors realize that the cells, tissues and organs are identified by the neurological system; cells, tissues and organs depend upon coordinated function through communication to the whole body via the neurological system. Cells, tissues and organs require physical and or chemical connection to the neurological system for a state of well-being.

All parts of our body are directly or indirectly connected to the nerves, just like apples are directly connected to the branches and indirectly to the trunk of the tree and its roots. If the roots and trunk of the tree are harmed or injured, the apples have the potential to be affected.

The human body’s ability to function toward optimal well-being requires a healthy neurological system to supply life forces throughout the cells, tissues and organs for the entity of life to be expressed.

Through the philosophy of chiropractic, there has been three elements distinguished as a necessity in the role of the neurological systems ability to coordinate the trillions of cells. These three united elements are intelligence, force and matter.

Chiropractors study human physiology or quality of life through the lens of neurology. When viewing quality of life through the neurological lens, you will see that the brain coordinates function throughout the body via nerve impulses or force giving a union between intelligence and matter to the human body as a whole.

Without the neurological system functioning properly in your body, you literally have a body with less complete union. The brain is the the first organ to develop in utero and is the last organ working to distinguish death.  Without your brain or neurological system in union with your tissues or organs, your body will not stay alive very long without the aid of medical equipment or treatment.

Our bodies require the neurological system in order to express life. This expression of life in the human body is the fourth principle, The Triune of Life. Life within our body requires; Intelligence, Force and Matter.
